Cathryn Gamble
Madness Opaque
self-relased
Cathryn Gamble is pretty special. Her debut sees her singing strangely but expressively. Her
songs are strong.
"Kooky Clean" is triggered by odd noises and a simple melody. It's short like all the other songs,
but it makes an impact. "Little Fishes" sounds like it was recorded in a basement. The vocals are
oddly distorted and the bursts of guitar sound like they come from the other room. That's as lo-fi
as it gets. "Scarlet Winter" is pretty but very spooky. Gamble sounds haunted by her personal ghosts.
"Lioness" is a also stripped-down but affecting as Gamble sings of the animal in question.
This is a very nice debut and it seems to inhabit its own universe.
