Kurt Cobain - it's been 10 years:
"With the lights out it's less dangerous..."
This full moon night, April 5th 2004, it's been 10 years since Kurt Cobain died. I remember
when the sad news broke back in the April days of 1994. It made me sad. Not that it came as a big
surprise. At first I thought he'd ODed. Suicide was shocking news. The sad fact is that a great
songwriter ended his life at the age 27.
I guess there isn't much more to say. Enough, or: too much have been written and told. Listen
to the records instead. Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero. Yes, even Unplugged
in New York, which shows Kurt Cobain on a night he (eventually) had a good time with his friends
in the band (counting 'the Meat Brothers' and Pat Smear). I also consider From the Muddy Banks
of the Wishkah to be an alright document, holding excellent evidence of the energy Nirvana showed
live in their time.
Finally I also recommend Charles R. Cross' biography Heavier Than Heaven, as it seems to
be most sober and accurate. Avoid all other books!
I wonder how a fourth Nirvana album would have sounded like..?
