Mudville
The Glory of man is not in vogue
Self-released
Mudville is Marilyn Carino and Ben Rubin. Their music is melancholy but appealingly so. It's
hard not to be reminded of Portishead while listening to their sophisticated sounds.
"Blown" is late night jazz noir with fetching vocals by Carino. "Stoned" is a peaceful, entrancing
meditation that has Carino sounding like Annie Lennox. "Othello" is a mysterious-sounding song
that shows the duo's gift for creating atmospheric sounds.
"Poets on parade" sports some amusingly surreal lyrics and a wicked beat. Mudville's debut is
a marvellous record.
