Kevin Morby
Beautiful Strangers b/w No Place To Fall
Dead Oceans
This new single (holding two songs) from Kevin Morby is recorded and launched 'in memory of the victims of Orlando and to support the work of Everytown for Gun Safety':
'This release is dedicated to and written for all the people I have never met but have only read about. The innocent people who were out living their
lives and one day, without warning, had them taken away from them. People who liked to laugh, dance, and love in the way that we all do, but can't anymore. All those names and faces, all
those beautiful strangers... So here are two songs, "Beautiful Strangers" as well as my cover of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place To Fall" that I have been closing my live show with over the past year. Any purchase of these two songs will go to support the work of Everytown For Gun Safety - an organization I have followed for quite some time. I believe in and support them in their efforts to make the world a safer place. So if you wish - you can donate as little or large as you'd like and I do hope you enjoy the songs. Do it for the kids.'
Love and peace, Kevin Morby
Morby's recent album, Singing Saw was a masterly record. Where the album carried songs holding singing saw magic and fascinating, mysterious songs
from the deep, dark woods (no, not Morby's former band, Woods) these songs are something different. "Beautiful Strangers" is a laid-back calypso-cajun
type of song. It's a balanced, slow dance track. The cover version of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place to Fall" was recorded live in studio(?) - or live in front of a small audience? Anyway,
Morby is true to the tone of the song by this iconic American singer-songwriter, but Morby's rhythm is quite changed compared to the original (which has been covered several times
over the years). It's a very fine version, and this single (these two songs) is of course a very good buy - for a good cause. Go get them, f.i. here at Morby's
Bandcamp site.
PS! Everytown for Gun Safety is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the USA with more than three million supporters and
more than 125,000 donors including moms, mayors, survivors and everyday Americans who are fighting for public safety measures that respect the Second Amendment and help save lives. At the
core of Everytown are Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and the Everytown Survivor Network.
