The Monochrome Set
Suddenly Last Autumn
Tapete Records
"Suddenly Last Autumn" is a teaser from the forthcoming album by The Monochrome Set, set for an early autumn release. I somehow lost touch with The Set after the original band called it
a day around 1985. But it seems Bid (vocals), Leicester Square (guitar) and company reformed in 1990 and kept going for eight years followed by a second one-off resurrection in 2008 and a
more permanent one in 2010. And here they are again, though since 2014 without Leicester, the band that gave the world excellent pills from the pop end of post punk in the first half of the
1980s like "He's Frank", "Eine Symphonie Des Grauens", "The Monochrome Set" (the song), "The Jet Set Junta" etc.
Let's quote The Big Takeover that recently published the song on their site:
'O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Hast thou slain the Jabberwock? No, no, my beamish boy, it's a new single from England's The Monochrome Set!
"Suddenly Last Autumn" is the second song on the band's 13th album, Cosmonaut, and it's all a rabid (or Jack Rabid) fan could want from the incomparable M-Set: twangy surf guitar,
Fats Waller-esque organ, odd spoken-word interludes, and, natch, an arch, deadpan vocal from the ever-brilliant Bid. We're so happy we could eat an oyster!'
Precisely! I can do without the oyster, though. Give me Cosmonaut in September instead!
