Allan Harris
Black Bar Jukebox
Love Productions Records
Allan Harris pays tribute to jukeboxes on this jazz effort. In particular he pays tribute to Harlem jukeboxes, the playlists of their time.
His original song "Miami" is a strong, dreamy composition that shows off his and his band's skill. Elton John's "Take me to the Pilot" gets a suitably sensitive reading with a great vocal.
Harris gets to the heart of the song. The standard "My Funny Valentine" is done very appealingly. It's been done by people as different as Chet Baker and Nico, but Harris' version has its own
soul.
"Can It Be, This Is A Dream" is another original, a drifting very nice song with a gorgeous vocal. It's a great record, and a lovely tribute to the jukebox.
