Stornoway impressed me with their debut album Beachcomber's Windowsill. "Knock Me On The Head" is the first single from their forthcoming album Tales From Terra Firma (due out in March). Again, it's back to Pop Central. Pop with a twist, that is, but catchy and charming as hell. Stornoway claim their influences to count Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Magic Numbers, The Epstein, Foxes!, The Travelling Band, North Sea Radio Orchestra, Anton Barbeau, and more. They also state band interests to include: 'Zorbing, Yodelling, Xylophoning, Walking, Vlogging, Unicycling, Trepanning, Sake-ing, Raki-ing, Quoting, Pretending, Ocareening, Nettle-stroking, Moon-howling, Lanterning, Kiting, Jerking(chicken)ing, Individualising, Hillwalking, Going, Fauxpopping, Edge-ing, Digging, Caving, Blogging, Acylating.' Right.

Stornoway are Brian Briggs (tenor/guitar), Jonathan Ouin (baritone/zither), Oliver Steadman (baritone/bass), and Robert Steadman (soprano/drums). "Knock Me On The Head" knocks you on the head, saying: Hello, this is a true pop song. Or, a folk-pop song. It's a smilingly, happy, melodic song. It seems Stornoway are ready to deliver another quality album in March, or at least I hope so. I believe they can do that. After hearing "Knock Me On The Head" I'm pretty convinced. Quality song writing, quality singing, quality playing and performing. With additional trumpet and violins. Now, we'll have to wait a couple of months for the rest.
