One Light Is Gone
Josienne Clarke
Josienne Clarke is a singer of great sensitivity and she proves it one her debut album. Opener "The Birds" sees her soar vocally to a soft yet urgent melody. It's a little like early Beth Orton. "All My Truth" is a delightfully folksy song with some sharp words to belie its sunny sound. Her voice is as lovely as ever. The title song is a sensitive mediation on lost love and a beautiful one at that. Clarke's vocal is understated to the soft backing.
"Way to the Shore" is another delicate yet hardly edgeless track about love gone badly. Clarke uses her sublime voice to its fullest to the lovely tune. It's a very promising debut.
