Luna Kafé's focused eye on great events, fantastic happenings, absolute milestones, or other curious incidents from the historic shelves/vaults of rock. This moonth the Lunar spotlight has caught an album turning 30 years old - released July 18th 1980. The second, and final album. Released post mortem (two months after Curtis' suicide), like a tombstone. This record is overwhelming. Its heart and soul lasts for decades. This is a brililiant colony of songs. It's a ritual passover, lasting 24 hours times 7, times 52, times... This is the eternal beauty of an atrocity exhibition. You can bring Closer to score absolute and total isolation. Like a means to an end.
Joy Division Recorded in March 1980 at Britannia Row Studios in Islington, London (owned by Pink Floyd at the time). Produced by Factory in-house producer Martin Hannett. Originally scheduled for release in May 1980, but postponed until 18 July. Not filled with yer most obvious summer hits, but the long term effect was immensely!
