Edda Magnason
Edda Magnason
Caprice
Edda Magnason has Icelandic roots and sure I can hear a faint Björkian echo in her voice, but it's mostly the accent. She records a jazzy music based
around her piano playing and it's utterly gorgeous.
"Swirl" sees her spin a web of notes on her piano while singing like an angel. "Ali" is wetly resonant and has a neat jazzy backdrop, really demonstrating
Magnason's range as a singer. "The Blue Hour" is suitably melancholy and has some terrfic piano playing by Magnason as well as a pixie-like vocal that snakes
under the melody nicely. "Sweet and Sour" is indeed mostly sweet, but the tone is quirky enough to maintain interest. It's a strong debut all told.
