Laura Groves records as Blue Roses and her debut is a highly accomplished entry in the singer/songwriter genre. The young singer has a remarkable voice
and uses it well on her songs.
"Cover Your Tracks" is quite and intimate, with Groves' elfin vocal soaring to a lovely folksy tune. She recalls early Claire Hamill here, precious and
talented. "Can't Sleep" is sweet and yet haunted by dark thoughts. The becalmed melody ably supports the vocal. "Does Anyone Love Me Now?" is instantly striking,
Groves vocal mourning lost love over a simple backing. "Doubtful Comforts" does it own very neat trick of sounding ethereal and familiar all at once. The vocal
is peerless as ever. Groves debut should win her many fans.
