Ayin Aleph
Ayin Aleph 1
Invencis
Well this is an odd one. The vocalist and composer Ayin Aleph hails from Russia and now makes metal-tinged music that sounds crazed and strange. Aleph caterwauls her way though these songs with the help of members from metal band Misanthrope. "My Bloody Marriage" sees Aleph going into a horror-inspired nightmare. "Aleph" has a spoken intro in Swedish then it goes really crazy. Aleph's piano is heard briefly. Others have compared her to Tori Amos, but I don't see that at all. She's more akin to Diamanda Galas if perhaps a little bit less scary. Her operatic wails on this track sound like a soprano trying to break out of hell by the power of her voice alone, and devils fleeing to the exits terrified.
"Valpurgis Night" is the gleeful cackling of the wicked witch as she's let out to play at night. This album is obviously not for everyone, but if you want something a bit different then this is for you.
