Demonika and The Darklings
Shelter
self-released

Demonika and the Darklings all claim Darkly as their surname, Ramones-style, and who can argue with that?

As the name implies they are a darkwave band with intriguing folk trimmings. They cover Ministry's "Everyday is Halloween" with an organic hardness and Demonika's vocals are tough and sweet at once. "New Year's Rain" throbs menacingly but with an added sweet veneer. The use of Devlyn Darkly's violin really makes it stand out. We then get a beguiling take on Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River" with an insistent beat to recommend it. Demonika's vocal is gorgeous and it's handled in good spirit. "Choir of Change" is energetic with small means and sees them edging into Siouxsie territory.

Demonika and her Darklings are worth getting into if you like the genre.
