Morten Abel
Some Of Us Will Make It
EMI
Morten Abel is the King of Pop in Norway. He's sold about half a million records in a country that holds 4.5 million people. Here's his sixth album and he
has not strayed from his formula. But there is something disturbing about the fact that I can't really dislike neither the formula, the songs or the guy. But
that's my own bloody problem.
He knows what he's doing, he knows where he wants to go and how it all is supposed to sound. He's even a witty bugger at times. Difficult as it is to write
him off I really can't say why he's not had a (minor at least) break-through outside of Norway. Compared to the likes of Robbie Williams, Abel is truly a genius
at his craft.
So, I suppose this is a good bet if you want to invite a lady over for a first date (chances are she wouldn't be impressed by your extensive Dead Kennedys-collection).
Well into the second bottle of wine you'd probably be quite agreeable to such catchy songs as "Big Brother", "River Phoenix" and "Down And Out". No reason to
get embarrassed if you catch your feet tapping to this.
